Road Trip! - Mississippi
I had wanted to get a picture of us in front of all the "Welcome to..." signs, but when we got to Louisiana, it was raining, and when we got to Alabama, everything was under construction and the welcome center was closed down. So I was only one for three.
So we left Louisiana late Tuesday afternoon and had a short (compared to other days), easy drive to Biloxi. We stayed at the Golden Nugget, and Eden was relieved to be back in a hotel.
We didn't do much except explore the hotel, get settled into our room and order room service Tuesday evening. Eden was fascinated by all of the slot machines. "What are those?", she asked in wonder. "Games", I told her. She was disappointed that she couldn't play.
Wednesday, May 20th
This day was all about the beach. We went to Gulfport, set up camp, and stayed there pretty much all day.
We took Eden to South Padre when she was just a little bit older than Ila is now, and she absolutely loved it - she scooted all over the sand, rolled around, laughed and laughed when the water lapped over her - so I honestly thought Ila was going to have a blast at the beach. That was not the case.
She was not amused.
Meanwhile...
Eden was a little maniac. She ran and splashed and danced and twirled and "swam" and chased birds and rolled around in the sand and built castles and ran and splashed some more. I have no idea how she didn't just collapse from pure exhaustion! She was so happy, so little Ila just had to endure a day at the beach because I wasn't willing to make Eden stop playing.
I don't think I would say she was ever happy while we were at the beach, but once I set her up in the shade and gave her some toys, she was content enough.
That evening on our way back to Biloxi, we stopped and ate here:
We sat outside on the deck, overlooking the harbor, and ate fried fish and soft-shelled crab.
We all pretty much passed out as soon as we got back to our hotel room. We left Mississippi the next morning after breakfast.
Next up, Alabama!
